HI, i have a fx-8350 black edition cpu with gt640 2gb ddr3 graphics.since, now i have the money for a better gpu. I was considering to Upgrade my gpu to a 3gb ddr5 and was thinking to buy a asus gtx 780 ddr5 graphics.SO, my question is CAN i use my old gt640 for onboard graphics and new gtx 780 just for gaming. Is there any technology in AMD or NVIDIA for this kind of configuration. Just like switchable graphics in AMD with INTEL integrated gpu.
pls can someone tell me. And i don't need suggestions regarding changing my CPU to intel as i have spent a lot of my money on liquid cooling and motherboard. and i am using a single monitor. :)
thanx.

A graphics card cannot be on board, that means it's on the motherboard. Switchable is only on laptops as the power saving is so insignificant, it's only useful on mobile devices for battery life. Also desktops can't disable or switch on the fly, there are extra circuits to do this cleanly on a laptop. You don't need intel to have switchable graphics on a laptop. Modern gpus use very little power when not gaming. You could physx but the 780 is powerful enough. As others have mentioned, you may want to look at a 970.

Thanx. As i am new to this stuff i really don't know much. BUT as you told me i am gonna stick with gtx 970.As for the dual graphics i really don't know about AMD BUT on NVIDIA's site in Physx FAQ the following is written:
How does PhysX work with SLI and multi-GPU configurations?
When two, three, or four matched GPUs are working in SLI, PhysX runs on one GPU, while graphics rendering runs on all GPUs. The NVIDIA drivers optimize the available resources across all GPUs to balance PhysX computation and graphics rendering. Therefore users can expect much higher frame rates and a better overall experience with SLI.

A new configuration that’s now possible with PhysX is 2 non-matched (heterogeneous) GPUs. In this configuration, one GPU renders graphics (typically the more powerful GPU) while the second GPU is completely dedicated to PhysX. By offloading PhysX to a dedicated GPU, users will experience smoother gaming.

Finally we can put the above two configurations all into 1 PC! This would be SLI plus a dedicated PhysX GPU. Similarly to the 2 heterogeneous GPU case, graphics rendering takes place in the GPUs now connected in SLI while the non-matched GPU is dedicated to PhysX computation.
Pls can you tell what this means????
And will i be able to use my old gt640 with the gtx 970 that i am going to buy??

First you need to know what physx is. This is a physics engine and turning this up just adds more objects, so just extra effects. There are not many games that use physx so unless you play those games then it's a waste of power to have a physx card. Essentially you have the monitor connected to your more powerful card which the game runs on and just offloads the physics calculations to the physx card.
