This computer will not start because I have forgotten the password and name. I've read that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall the OS. I have a disk and have tried several ways to get it installed. Any advice. Good advice only. Oh, I'll try anything any advice would be appreciated.

Hi iksnozop,

You can try reinstalling the wireless drivers by going to this link http://dell.to/1lTHx4p and punch in your service tag go to drivers download and reinstalling the network drivers, let me know how it goes. Also make sure there is no tick mark on the work offline.

I've been told that I need to reinstall the op sys in order to get around the user name/password (which I've forgotten since I haven't used this computer in a while). I have a reinstall disk from Dell, but it's giving me trouble. Also heard that a system restore disk will work, but I don't know about the password/username. The restore disk will be about $25.00 Again not sure why Dell disk is giving me a hard time and don't know if restore disk will reset blocks to computer.

Hi iksnozop,

What happens when you try to reinstall from the operating system disk? What is the operating system installed on your computer?

I've gotten window 7 to work. Having difficulty with Internet. Get 'Connecting through WAN miniport (PPPOE)' and then 'Error connecting to broadband connection'. I'm using same cable hookup for this computer without difficulty. In tools there is a 'work off line' button. I 'X' it,but after it reboots I have to do it again. That's not the problem now. If you have an idea I'd appreciate it. I'm close to getting it back up and running.
