I originally wanted a RADEON HD 7850 2GB DDR5 because thats what was needed to max out my old computer, but I just recently had to settle with a Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition Dual-X OC 2GB for a bargain, will my computer be able to use this?

Also I realise I'll probably need a better power box for this, what one should I get?

OKAY, I've been asking this question all day, and I would really like either an answer or for someone to tell me what they need to know in order for me to get an answer from them!

Short Answer: Probably not

Long Answer: A Dell Dimension 9150 is quite old and I doubt the OEM Power supply that comes with it will be powerful to power this graphics card.

A decent brand 500W PSU should be good. Get one from XFX or EVGA or Corsair is alright as well.

What CPU do you have and how much RAM do you have? Just curious.
I also know that some Dell OEM Desktops are notoriously built in ways that upgrading would be a bit or a lot harder to do.

I have 4 sticks of 1gb running at 667 and a PENTIUM D 960 SL9AP 3.6 GHz LGA775 Dual Core FSB 800MHz CPU
I know it would take a RADEON HD 7850 2GB DDR5 so the one I have now can't be that much of a stretch right?

Also yeah I'm going to get a 500w power supply.

You have a Pentium D processor? That's like next to ancient processors, like caveman processors compared to these days. It was great for its time though.

You are going to experience bottlenecking with that CPU. I recommend instead of upgrading your graphics card, you should upgrade the CPU or maybe upgrade the whole computer if possible. If your budget does not allow you to get a new computer, then we can try to figure out what the best CPU you can put in your computer. Upgrading the CPU will be very important otherwise you won't like the performance you will be getting with the 7870 or the 7850.

However, something tells me that you probably got the best CPU you can get for your motherboard, knowing Dell puts processor limits on what CPU is supported or not.

also, what power supply do you have and what is the wattage for that?

I have a standard OEM 370w power supply I think? and yeah I have the best CPU it will take. I've pretty much scrapped this computer together so the graphics card I had before this one was completely ancient. However the card arrived yesterday and me being me I decided to plug it in right away despite not having the power supply. The motherboard accepted it, and it worked fine!

Playing skyrim, but if I load up anything to big the power might cut out, and I don't really want to test it, I think I'll wait until I get my power supply before loading up crysis 4 on full graphics :p

a 370W PSU? Just becareful not to run stress tests for your graphics card. I believe your CPU takes up like 145W TDP and the graphics card takes up almost 200W. Then the rest of the components take up around 50W. Those numbers are assuming if they all run at max load, i.e. stress tests/benchmarks, so dont do those. Just curious, what resolution are you playing at and are you not experiencing any bottlenecks? I wouldn't expect severe bottlenecks but surely there must be some.
