I bought I5 4690k for 199.99 at Frys's few days ago. However I7 4790k is now on sale for 249.99 at Micro Center. So i am really in dilema should i pay a little bit more and buy i7 instead(didnt build my pc yet). Is 4790k worth 50$ more than the 4690k? I do mainly gaming but its going to be my all purpose pc with some video encoding too(movie, anime etc). I wonder if i7 4790k is any better for these tasks or more future proof that justify 50$ more price tag. Thanks.

By all means, get it. It's usually priced $130 above the I5 and the price difference has it's justification in well threaded scenarios. Now an I7 4790k for $250 is almost a steal, I got mine for 300€ ($370) and don't regret it.

If you want to spend that extra bit of money for the increased performance, go for it :)

Also if your overclocking, the 4790k is the processor for you. Mine runs at a whopping 4,8 Ghz.

But the 4690k is not a bad CPU :).

In general i don't think an i7 is worth paying extra for compared to an i5. I would typically recommend buying an i5 and then overclocking it. However $50 is a pretty small difference so I would actually ignore my usual advice in your situation and just buy the i7 lol. However, if you really want to save $50 it's really not that big of a deal. I just typically will buy a bit better when the price difference is small.
