Hi all,

I have been tweaking Far Cry 4 for the past hour figuring out how to make it look best with my rig. I eventually ended up switching it to windowed mode and lo and behold, it looks WAY better. Wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing or if I am not optimizing correctly.

For clarification, my rig vaguely:
GTX 980
i7-4790k
16GB RAM

Solution
Even though I had about 40-50fps at Fullscreen, the screen refresh was kind of lagy.
Tryed every thing out but changing from Fullscreen to Borderless was the resolution.

Thats realy stupid because usualy it`s faster in Fullscreen so they say. But I have a second Monitor and that might be a reason.
(will try that out today)

...I tryed out turning of the second Monitor and to turn of smt/HT of Intels i7 nothing made that effect disappear.

Depends. If you are using TV as monitor, it might be that your screen is not exactly the resolution it says it is (common with TVs), so the pixels get blurry in full screen, while in windowed mode you are getting 1:1 pixel resolution.

I'm using a Samsung PC monitor so a bit confused. Any logical solutions as to why? I am able to play any other game perfectly in fullscreen hence why I am a bit confused.

I was having problems with how it looked, plus the performance was choppy at ultra.

New driver installed yesterday - now things are working and looking great.

As far as I'm aware, windowed mode helped with performance, not how it looked.

With your rig, try the 'nvidia' setting and think about turning god rays off. I also have it set to SSAO.

My rig is in my sig.

Hey Implicit, i am having the same issue, i dont know how to fix it, and its not just with Far cry 4 that the windowed mode runs better, but tomb raider also runs better on windowed mode.

other games that i play still runs good, but just these 2 games that i have is causing me to play on windowed mode instead of full screen

my rig
GTX 980 HOF edition
i7 @ 3.7 Ghz
16 gb ram

Usually when a game runs better in Borderless mode it's because it is either lacking proper fullscreen optimization and/or the user is running their desktop in a different res than the game.

For a well optimized game, Fullscreen mode run in the same res as the desktop is the ideal scenario. When a program runs in fullscreen mode, it is in "exclusive mode", meaning it has full control over the screen output.

In windowed mode, a program has to send it's output to Explorer's "Window Manager", which manages where onscreen that output is drawn. Thus windowed mode uses more resources.

That said, newer versions of Windows use far less resources for Window Manager. Borderless mode can also be more compatible with Alt+Tabbing and certain capture programs.

It's best to try fullscreen and borderless, it can depend on the game. In general though, fullscreen is FAR more flexible to the desktop res you use, whereas usually borderless will only work if the desktop is = to game res.
