Hello,

Recently my PC has been locking up when launching games. Ill click the game and the hourglass will spin and then lock. i have the manually restart my PC and try again, if it works and i get into the game i can play for hours with 0 freezes.

This all started when i purchased and installed Windows 8.1. I reformatted thinking the install didnt go correctly but the issue persists even after.

PC Specs:
Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
16GB DDR3
AMD MSI 7970R GPU x2 (Crossfired)
i7 3770K ivybridge CPU
950w corsair PSU
1920 X1200 Resolution
Windows 8.1 pro

What is my issue? :(

OK. You did a clean install.
If a clean install with nothing else on the system is causing freeze ups, it may be hardware issue. But once you start installing other pgms. games, etc. then you introduce the possibility of software conflicts being the issue. Can you get it to lock up with nothing but Win8.1 installed?

Try removing one of the HD 7970s and don't use CF. See if the issue is still present. If it is, try the other card alone too.

I will give that a try, i cannot get the PC to lock up without a program unfortunately. it only freezes when launching a game. The weird thing is if i get the game to launch i will never get a freeze up once in game.. This lead me to believe it really may be software..

...or perhaps the drive if it only happens when loading a program.

Hmm, i have an SSD This is what the OS is installed on. My games are my TB.. ill pick up a new Drive and see what happens if i install onto that drive alone. I hope my SSD inst the problem.

Not too likely. But about the only thing left is the MB, PSU, or SSD. If your old HDD is still available, use it in place of the SSD for now to see if it was the problem. Remove the SSD.

i have resolved the issue.. i replaced my GPU and SSD and came to realize that all along it WAS software. i was downloading APU Drivers because i dont read and just click like a dummy...
