Corsair h80i no longer working properly?

Hey guys this is my first post here, been reading posts for a while here though and figured this is the best place to come for help.

I have an i7 3970x that is unlocked or whatever so it goes up to like 4.3 GHZ.

I'm using a corsair h80i cooler. I've been using this cooler for about a year and a half or so. While my idle temps have never been great (55-60's) I always attributed that to just the i7 being hot.

Over the past week or two I noticed my performance in games was declining, but nothing drastic, so I figured it was just a buggy update or something of that sort.

But the past couple of days, my performance tanked, with me getting 5-10 fps on games I have been getting 400+ fps on for the past year.

Noticed my GPU temps are fine, but when I checked my processor, I noticed they were very high, in the 80's and pushing my max of 91. I tried reapplying thermal paste, even though it had only been a year or so, to no avail. I'm pretty sure I didn't use too much either.

It used to only be noticeable in games but now I can't even browse the web because my temps on all my cores hit 91.

Corsair Link shows the pump working at 2200~ RPM, and both the fans are spinning and on high setting at like 2500~ RPM.

I really don't know what to do or what the problem could be. I thought maybe it was windows or a virus untill I noticed I had temps of 91 at a load of 10%. I don't know if it's a problem with the processor? I doubt it but I really don't know. The chip was like 1 grand and I really don't think it would just poop out after a year.

Which is why I'm pretty sure it's the corsair water cooler. And even though the pump and fans appear to be working, my temps are crazy high and I can barely even browse the web. Heck I'm posting this from my phone because I'm too scared to let my poor baby run any more under these conditions.

I really appreciate your time and any help with this problem. I am an avid gamer and when my computer doesn't work, well, you know how that feels.

I don't believe so. I can check it tomorrow when I'm back home. But it's all felt pretty sturdy since I've had it.

Didn't mean to select best answer. I won't be able to check it untill about 1 or so tomorrow.

Ok it doesn't appear like anything is loose. Now however when I boot my computer it basically tries to get to th bios and then shuts off. Also the corsair light on the heat sink is flashing red sort of, before it shuts down

You can't check for mounting bracket looseness when the waterblock & pump assembly is mounted. Remove the waterblock & pump assembly from the mounting posts. The mounting bracket should be snug . There should be no gap between the mounting posts and the top surface of the motherboard that allows the mounting bracket to wobble. This was a known problem with early versions of the H80i and H100i. Corsair must have assumed that all motherboards were the same thickness but they would be wrong. I don't know if Corsair has modified the offending part(s) yet.

When I installed my friend's H80i for him, last year, there was a gap between the mounting posts and top surface of the motherboard that allowed the mounting bracket to wobble. The temperature of the CPU would climb to the point of thermal throttling and shutdown during CPU stress testing. I solved the problem by going to Home Depot and buying some #8 flat nylon washers that I placed between the mounting bracket and the underside of the motherboard so that there was no more gap between the mounting posts and the top side of the motherboard. What this does is that it applies proper clamping pressure of the waterblock & pump assembly to the CPU's heat spreader.

Uneven spread of the thermal compound is also a sign of insufficient clamping pressure.

Your pump assembly may also be defective in which case you will have to initiate an RMA with Corsair to resolve that.

I've checked there and it doesn't wobble at all. Seems tight and snug. However it now seems like I'm having bios problems as well. My computer is only reading 8 gigs of ram when I have 16 installed. The h80i lights up red during boot and now has no color while it's running. This was the first time I could get my comp to start in the past 6 hours. Except now, my cpu temps are all still 91 at idle on top of my computer only reading 8 gigs of ram

If the waterblock assembly feels hot then the pump has most likely failed.

If you still have the stock Intel cooler that came with your CPU you can swap it for the H80i for troubleshooting purposes. If your system works fine with the stock Intel cooler then you can be sure that the H80i is faulty.
