When i use Precision X 16 for my EVGA SSC, it seems that my K-Boost goes bolting towards 1404MHz. Anything more than that when i manually turn up the percentage, it crashes. Am i doing anything wrong? Sorry im new to overclocking.

Im just a little worried since i heard that MANY GTX 970s have gone way over 1400MHz all the way to 1450s and some even over 1500MHz with ease.

people prefer msi afterbuner because it can be hacked to get past certain cards built in limits.

as far as your bios, you can get a custom skynet bios flash it to your bios. last i knew at least up until the 780s, evga allow you to do this to their cards without breaking your warranty. you should ask evga if this is still ok to do to your current card. the problem is with single bios cards, if something goes wrong with the flashing, you will brick your card. so you should ask evga if that occurs is your warranty still intact.

otherwise i still think modders and working on gm204 as far as unlocking everything they can in terms of voltage, higher power limit, disabling boost, etc.

if your running your card at 1400mhz and getting happy gaming performance, i wouldn't worry about overclocking to the moon so much.

Nvm i was being an idiot. I kept on turning it up based on core clock (1117 + 400 = 1517). In reality it was current clock (1404 + 400 = 1804). It only kept crashing because i was stupid. Now i run on a stable 1545 MHz never going over 60C. My rig sounds like a leaf blower though

yeah turn it down. if you prefer precision over afterburner so be it, but you should give ab a try.

create a custom fan profile to your liking. test the fan speed at each increment, 100%, 90%, 70%, 65%, 40%. your card should never be going over 80c. so if you want max performance, let it get to 75c but with a fan % setting that you feel acceptable. of course at lower than 75c you can drop the fan speed %.

im going to go out on a limb here, but 100% fan speed is just useless and only useful for benchmarking fun along with opeing up your side panel and using a 24" floor fan on a cold morning.

definitely set your fan curve to go to 100% at say 90c, but at 80c it might be at 50-70% depending on how loud whatever cooler is strapped on the card, in your case the acx cooler.

but after you have figured out your fan settings and what you think is acceptable noise, remove frequiency(mhz) and vcore(voltage) until you find a good balance for your fan curve. 1545mhz is plenty plenty fast, but that extra 45mhz doesn't mean much for gaming. go back to 1500mhz and taper down a little from there, say ending at 1475mhz and hopefully the noise is very acceptable. i will lose 4fps all day for a quiet computer.
