Ok so I just got everything to build my computer today and the main components I'm having trouble with is the motherboard and the cpu. I have the asus z97 pro and a i7 4790k cpu. I couldn't get it to boot up It kept saying monitor has no signal. I was getting a 76 error code on the motherboard, I tried removing gpu, ssd, optical drive, ram and everything and still couldn't get it to boot.

I then read a little bit more and seen that my cpu requires bois version 1008 and my board has 0603 or something along those lines. So I unhooked everything cpu, gpu, and all connectors except for the 24 pin and the 8 pin power connector. I downloaded 1008 bios renamed it and put it into the usb flashback slot on my motherboard, I hit the flashback button and a green led started blinking for a few seconds then it went away(like it's suppose to). I then put everything back in my computer and tried to boot up only to get back stuck on the monitor has no signal crap

What can I do to fix this? I don't have another cpu to put into and download the correct bios for my 4790k so my only option was to use the usb flashback which didn't work. It's kind of aggravating to spend $1500 on a new computer only to waste my whole day and night trying to get it to work..

Solution
Well if something was bent it probably wouldnt do anything

It may not matter what you get it may still need a BIOS update since a 4790k is a Devils canyon CPU. And it'll be later than whatever mobo

I don't think the board was allowing a bios flash. But anyways after inspecting the cpu socket closer I noticed a bent prong(it wasn't touching another one I don't think)so luckily my cpu or board didnt get fried. I next dayed a maximus vii hero and will be sending the z97 pro back to newegg for a refund. I'm just wondering if the maximus vii hero can run the i7 4790k out of the box or will I have to fight with trying to get a new bios on it again. The z97 pro came shipped with a 0603 bios version and I needed 1008 for the i7 4790k.

So any insight on the maximus vii hero would be great. I figure since it's a newer board it would be good to go without any updating, but I'll let someone who has bought both the maximus vii hero and i7 4790k chime in. I still have the rest of today to research a bit more. And to answer your question Paul I bought a gtx 970 and everything lights up but a solid red led on the motherboard comes on with no post boot or anything so the bios of the board didn't support the devils canyon processor. I tried using both hdmi, vga, dvi from the gpu and mobo connection and both results where the same, so the cpu just wasn't booting with the bios version being wrong.

Yes the z97 pro supported it but it didn't work. I formatted a usb drive to fat32, downloaded the required bios version and renamed it, removed everything besides the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors, pressed the bios flashback button and let the led flash for a few minutes until it went away, and then put everything back into the computer and nothing happened. Second go around I noticed the cpu socket had a bent prong so I'm guessing that was why it didn't boot after doing the bios update. But either way got a better looking board coming and hopefully it supports the i7 4790k without a bios update.
