Hello all,

My PC become noisy ( i guess its the fan either GPU or CPU) when playing games only, and very quiet for another use.

Here is spec (its all under 1 month of usage) :

i5 4460
Sapphire R9 280X OC Tri-X
Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb
Asus H97 Pro Gamer
WD 1 TB Blue
Seasonic X560
Armageddon T7 Case
*Note : PSU at bottom

Cooling system :
2x120mm Corsair SP120 top (exhaust)
1x120mm Front (stock) intake
1x120mm Rear (stock) exhaust

Here is the pic :

Do I need to add another intake fan at the bottom for better performance?
Feel free to give your opinion for what should I do in order to make the noise disappear and to maximize the cooling system.

Thanks.

Solution
It's coming from BOTH the graphics card and the CPU likely, but only the CPU cooler is replaceable (easily). Also, most of the issues were the the R9-290 and R9-290X cards. THIS is an R9-280X with a pretty good cooler so the main noise is likely the CPU fan.

*He only has a stock CPU cooler so replacing that would help a lot.

$32 - CM... "EVO" http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

$62 - Noctua NH-U12S http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu12s

Both are sufficient for cooling. The Noctua will be quieter under load compared to the EVO but also costs more. The EVO is noticeably quieter than the stock under load.

There are tips on how to replace the cooler online...
Noise comes from fast fans.
Use a rolled up paper tube and listen to where the noise is coming from.
My guess is the graphics card.
You probably don't want to sacrifice graphics performance by turning those fans down.

I doubt that more fans will net you less noise.

Hello there. Two thinks might doing that kind of noise in your PC. CPU fan and your Sapphire R9 280X OC Tri-X . If I was in your position I would open ATI control center and on overdrive but manual fun control. (TOUSH ONLY THE FAN CONTEOL NOTHING ELSE) and make it %100 and hit apply. If the noise/sound you hear is familiar then congrats you have found that your vga is making noise . Time for a aftermarket cooler :) .
Have fun.

The QUICK answer for your setup is this:

1. Prepare system to swap coolers
2. Remove old cooler
3. Clean (see instructions) old paste
4. apply about 5mm diameter of paste in pea shape (no need to spread it)
5. Drop cooler down and cross-mount screws

6. attach fan to CPU_FAN
7. Hook everything else back up (motherboard if removed etc).
8. Start, then setup FAN CONTROL software (motherboard) so CPU fan increases only as needed

Setup case fans through motherboard as well if they can be controlled.
