Hey guys so I have a pretty simple question. I currently have an HP DM4 1062nr which my girlfriend will be using soon. Link to specs and stuff below. I'm wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to 8gb of ram and to replace the hard drive with a 256gb ssd? It'll be used for some light video editing with Sony Vegas Pro though I have some desktops that will usually be doing it except when I'm on the go. Just for some fashion videos like you see on youtube (see clothesencounters) It'll probably also be used for light gaming (integrated gpu I know can't handle much). So yea, what do you guys think? And are the below compatible? Thanks guys!

The SSD will make the biggest difference in overall speed but the extra 4GB will help with the video editing. I'd say for the cost it's probably worth it. Not to mention you can always move the SSD to any rig you want later so it's not an wasted investment regardless of how it works out.

Well, that's an Elpida 1333mhz sodimm module. So any module that matches those specs should work. Do you know how many memory slots the laptop has? If it has two slots, are you planning to completely remove the current modules and all two new modules or are you just wanting to add to what it already has, if it only has one module. If it has two slots I recommend installing a matched pair of new modules so it can run in dual channel and effectively double the memory bandwidth, which will increase performance to some degree. You could go either way though depending on what you have now.

I'm assuming you currently have two 2GB modules installed. Removing those and replacing them with two 4GB modules would be the only memory upgrade that makes any sense. Since it currently has 1333mhz modules installed that's what I would go with rather than 1600mhz modules like those listed in your link above. 1600mhz modules MIGHT run in it, but they might not as well. Or, they might work but be downclocked to 1333mhz by the BIOS in which case it doesn't make sense to pay for the more expensive modules. The performance difference is negligible anyhow.

Your current modules are Elpida, which is commonly used in Asian and Indian markets so I'm assuming that one of those areas is where you're located but if you can confirm where you are and what online retailers, ie, Flipkart etc., I'll be glad to point you to some acceptable units.

You're right that it is I'm fact 2 x 2gb in there and I would like to completely replace them. Whether it be with 1333 or 1600, I'm not sure. I do believe they are both compatible but if the difference is not noticable I would rather just to with the "safer" one. And actually I'm located in Orange County in California in the US and always have been. Got my laptop from Microsoft store in the Mission Viejo mall in Orange County back a few years.

Hmm, ok. Usually when I see Elpida it's in a foreign market, but the OEM's may use whatever they have at the time so it's probably not unheard of, perhaps even common for those HP units. So here is what I'd recommend.

For budget RAM, this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Memory: G.Skill 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($63.75 @ Newegg)
Total: $63.75
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

As a slightly better quality module, this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Memory: Mushkin 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $79.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
