Hi everyone, I've got a very popular error while installing windows, it displays error "Required cd/dvd media driver missing..." before the selecting drive to install windows step. I did try many suggested solutions: using a different .iso file, install AHCI SATA driver, using cmd diskpart to create new empty partition, install from hard disk using cmd -> setup.exe but this error is still there. I haven't tried a solution that is using a USB 2.0 port instead of 3.0 since the only USB 2.0 port on my laptop died and my laptop does not have a DVD neither. So is there any suggestion to install windows on my laptop?

My laptop is Dell XPS 13 L321x, now I'm using Ubuntu 14.04

You can look up how to install windows from your harddrive. You will have to remove your harddrive and connect it on to another computer. From there you can copy all windows installation files on it and make it a bootable drive. The steps are basically the same when you are making a bootable usb drive.

This is likely entirely too late being that this was posted a year ago, but just ran into this. The right side USB port will not work with running a USB Dvd/cd drive during an OS install. The left side USB port does however. Likely the right side one provides less power or something lame along those lines, but either way, hit the same issue, repeatedly tried on right side and it failed with the same error, moved to left side port, and everything worked swimmingly.
