Hey guys,

I have a computer that stopped working overnight, and I believe that the motherboard is the problem. I tried swapping out the CPU with another working one and the computer showed the same symptoms. I also tried removing extra peripherals, swapping out the DIMMs and removing extra ones, swapping out the PSU, and even the monitor. I also tested several graphics cards in every PCIe slot, using VGA and DVI with no success.

When I power on the computer, the CPU_LED turns on for about a minute, and then the VGA_LED comes on indefinitely. Also there is no POST beep which seems odd.

The specs are:
ASUS P8Z77-v Pro
Intel i5 3570k
One stick of Corsair Vengeance 4GB @ 1600Mhz
Tested various graphics cards and on-board

Any help would be much appreciated, but I am assuming that the motherboard if broken.

Thanks in advance!

I just tried removing all the RAM and there was no post beep! Also the VGA_LED never came on, not sure if that matters.

What is the brand and model (not just wattage) of the PSU?

It sounds like the mobo may be bad, but it wouldn't do to replace it with another before investigating what might have killed it.

With a new motherboard, you'll likely need to call Microsoft to reactivate Windows on the new one.

Yeah...... that computer is trashed because there was more than likely a short with the cpu and messed with both mobos. I'd say just throw both of them out and get a new motherboard, i hear they're pretty cheap right now.

I am debating putting the CPU into another working motherboard to make sure that it is dead. However, last time I tried that, the new motherboard stopped working. Is it worth the risk of breaking another motherboard?
