Hello there. I'm not the best whiz on computers, so I thought i'd turn to you guys for help, if any is possible.

Problem;

For the past few days while playing a game, my PC kept locking up and freezing, the whole system. Games were Arma 3 and WoW.

Until this afternoon, it completely froze, black screen so I rebooted. And got stuck on the 'Starting windows splash screen. I tried system restore and all the other repair tools listed but it seems to not want to have any of that, by throwing an error at me. I can't remember what error specifically, also I did read about an registry corrupt part.

Now i'm on safe mode with networking, right now, cleaning up my PC. My HDD checked out in good health, along with memory. But as I went to update my GPU drivers, it really didn't like that. I downloaded the newest version of Catalyst Control Center to update, but it just says Failed load detection driver. And when I go in my folders ect there is no CCC folder anymore. And I cannot see any info on my graphic settings ect. So i'm really stumped or if it is because i'm in safe mode?

Thanks for any help given, and sorry i'm not 100% computer savvy!

PC Specs are:

Win 7 64 Bit
AMD FX 6100 6 Core
AMD Radeon 6670 (Sapphire)
8gb Memory
Asus M5A78L-MLXV2
500gb Seagate HDD

The motherboard has an onboard graphics chip, you can connect your monitor to the motherboard using its VGA connector this should allow you to run in normal mode to troubleshoot further.
Hopefully you have a VGA/DVI converter laying around somewhere, most cards ship with one.
Those symptoms are typical of an overheating issue, before proceeding, check the CPU/graphics coolers/fans are clean.
A corrupt registry is, potentially very bad news, it's possible you'll need to reinstall your entire system software.

Well I took the GPU out and used onboard via converter. And it still wouldn't boot. My HDD kept making an ticking and a quiet beep noise. Looping. So i'm sure its that. But I took it all apart, cleaned it, used my 7750 in there and it seems to be working now, got past the splash screen. It then checked consistency and fixed a few errors and well it's working now. But I still should perhaps get a new HDD to prevent the problem in the future. :) Thanks!
