Hello,

i have a TP Link Powerline Adapter which connects to the router and my PC. Previously this has worked duel with my wireless to boost my internet connection, as the wireless barely works.

Over the weekend it was unplugged and now identifies as a seperate unidentified network (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) and wont connect to the internet. The wireless is still connecting (barely!) but its split from this.

On plugging into my MacBook i receive 'Ethernet has a self-assigned IP Address and will not be able to connect to the internet'

I have attempted to reset and use different plug sockets with no luck, if someone has any ideas please do help!

Thanks,

Tom

Apparently with regular use, powerline adapters don't last that long.

You can see if you can connect to them via software, and reset both of them to factory specs. Sometimes it is as easy as a hardware button for the reset.

The phone charger should make no difference.

Thanks digitaldoc, apologies for the duel noobness.

Any thoughts on why the adapter would go bad after a year working? The two units (TP-LINK 500Mbps Nano Powerline Adaptor) appear to still light up and respond to each other, so i'm assuming they are still paired.
I have read that using a phone charger via the same socket can cause issues and from my understanding this was done across the weekend. I will attempt to use a different socket and reboot the router, hopefully this solves it!

Switching the adapters around and resetting in the powerline utility seem to have done the trick!

Only issue now is the fluctuating download speeds.. hoping the adapters aren't causing this issue for the router / other PCs in the house.
