I just tried building my first PC out of these:

CPU: AMD FX-4300
MOBO: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+
RAM: Team Vulcan 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270X 4GB DirectCU II
PSU: Corsair Builder 500W

It's just a cheap lil' first-time rig to see if I could manage to build one.
I followed http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274745-31-step-step-guide-building while I was building it.

When I power it on, all the fans turn on, but I get no display on my monitor at all (connected via DVI). The system speaker also doesn't make any sounds whatsoever.
I went through http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems and I'm still getting no visuals. I used the MOBO's ability to check RAM and it seems that my sticks are fine. I tried another CPU and nothing changed, so I'm assuming that's not the issue either.

I'm guessing the video card is to blame, but I wouldn't know why exactly or what I could do to fix it. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to hardware though, so I'm here asking for any possible problems/solutions.

The monitor is a SAMSUNG S24C230L if that helps at all. I also tried outputting through HDMI to my TV and there's still no display.

It needs BIOS 1006 to support that CPU

FX-4300(FD4300WMW4MHK),3.8GHz,4C,95W,rev.C0,AM3+ ALL 1006

If thats not on it now it wont do anything

Look at the sticker on the mobo. What are the last 4 numbers??

If its under 1006 use USB BIOS flashback to update the BIOS

Oh, I didn't even think of that. The last 4 numbers are 2301. I'll see if I can flash the MOBO and if that works or not.
Thank you.

By the look of things, everything is connected properly. I just tried to flash anyways but it looks like that's not a thing I can do without a display first as far as I can see.

So I made a little video of what everything looks like for me. I can post pictures of specific areas if need be. I should mention the monitor works fine with my laptop. I'm thinking that the video card might be incompatible or just plain dead and I'll probably have to order some <$50 one to verify that.

I'm guessing the case speaker is dead as well since it makes no noise.

You're just referring to these right?

It's hard to tell from the photo. but both the LED power indicators beneath the cables are lit.

I'm sorry, I'm not too great at taking pictures.
I've tried each stick of RAM in every RAM slot individually and also every possible way to pair them. The Motherboard has a MemOK! feature that checks the RAM and they seem to be working.

Unfortunately, I don't have another PC available to test the video card in.

As for the standoffs, there are 6 standoffs in there matching up with the six screw-holes in the MOBO. I think that's the correct way to do it.

Yep, still nothing with the other slot. I'm just gonna order a cheap card soon and try that out, and if it works I'll return this one and get another.
If that doesn't work out, I guess I'll be back.
Thanks for all the help!
