Far Cry 4 SLI dark shadows and texture ghosting fix 344.75 drivers

I saw a lot of peeps having similar trouble after the nvidia 344.75 drivers dropped yesterday causing those running in SLI to have super dark shadows at night and severe ghosting of burned in textures. I did some tinkering to find a fix for both...I will test more as the texture issue can take time to happen. anyways you'll need nvidia inspector to do this.

1. Open nvidia inspector, go to settings (next to driver version) and from profiles choose far cry 3
Under sli bits copy the to sli strings and paste them on a notepad. or i can be nice give them to you here:

SLI compatibility bits (dx1x)
0x081902F5 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3)

note: I have also tried some numbers I saw in another forum (forgot which, SLI bits was on my clipboard I had for researching fix) some people have better luck with this string instead of the (dx 1x) SLI bits above, especially if having issues with unfix-able shadows/ textures flickering that going back to the main menu and continuing won't fix. Though I found issues with trees at night near cliffs (weird setting i know right?). They seem to have a texture issue causing the leaves and some higher branches to go white or translucent and back again. A fairly minor bug to be honest.

0x080020F5

SLI compatibility bits
0x02402C05 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3)

2. Using nvidia inspector choose far cry 4 under profiles and paste the strings in their proper SLI bits line accordingly.

3. Apply changes in upper right

4. Play Far Cry 4 in SLI at night with the proper shadows.

UPDATE: I played the game for hours with no texture ghosting. Yea!!! Also I had to use V-sync to keep it buttery smooth, off I found it stuttered but this has been true for me since far cry 2 and the move to the then first iteration of the Dunia engine.

UPDATE:I tested both SLI bits settings mentioned in step 1 for (dx 1x) and there was a very small differance for me in FPS

0x081902F5 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3) FPS= 92-94

0x080020F5 FPS= 93-95

UPDATE:Further testing on my rig has shown the 0x080020F5 value to be less stable in some areas of the map in terms of frame rate. For me it causes FPS to dip in the 40-50's well out side the V-sync of 60hz I prefer play at on an HDTV.

UPDATE:I have now tried tried the Batman: Arkham Origins values I have seen working for some users. While they work fine as far as shadows and ghosting go I get the same spikes in the same areas I get with the 0x080020F5 value. Regardless some users claim better performance so I thought i would include them as well . Also I could not find an original poster to credit only mention of said fix. If anyone knows please post so I can give them the appropriate kudos!

SLI compatibility bits
0x02C00045 (Batman: Arkham Origins, Batman: Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Asylum)

UPDATE: Ubisoft has dropped the 1.5.0 patch. I reinstalled the 344.75 drivers to check the results of the patch to see what if anything has been resolved. To my delight the dark shadows and ghosting glitch have been eliminated for me using the standard SLI bits provided by nvidia's 333.75 patch. I will test further to ensure ghosting does not appear after long game sessions as before. As for now I did have to drop my TXAA settings to 2x for smooth 60hz V-sync play but in the end for me that is an acceptable sacrifice for a solid game play experience. Note: all settings are maxed at 1080p, ultra, Ambient Occlusion HBAO+, TXAA 2X and with motion blur off (i hate it personally). Using two 780 GTX's SLI'd w/ i7 3930k @ 4.2ghz w/ 16g of ram with the game running off Agility 3 128gx2 SSD's raid 0.

UPDATE: Further testing has shown for me the new patch still has ghosting issues with SMAA but the shadows are still fixed as mentioned above.

UPDATE: Tested MSAA 2-8x also...no ghosting so for me at this point, only SMAA is borked. I am also not running into the blinking textures YET using MSAA settings that TXAA settings seem to have intermittently. I would be interested in other peoples experiences with the 1.5.0 patch.

It feels like the performance isn't quite as good as the official profile but it's still significantly better than a single card and the darkness issue is totally fixed. Thanks dude!

awesome I am happy to hear this works for someone other then me...Enjoy! Though i actually seemed to get better frame rate with Far Cry 3 Profile settings in SLI bits compared to the official patch...most likely a system config or software difference between us.

it works for me, on 560ti 2xSLI.
i fix this problem turning of the SLI but this solution works better and you gain +15-20 fps.
i understand that solution use the Far Cry 3 SLI profile instead the Far Cry 4 profile.
it is very sad to see how badly out new games.

Where is this sli bits at on the Nvidia inspector...I've looked for it everywhere and even googled images that have it but for some reason mine doesn't?!? That can't be right....I must be missing it but I just can't find it.

FYI, this is working fine. The performance for me is in between no SLI and SLI with FC4 SLI bits.

Note that before trying this fix I had Max Pre-Rendered Frames to 3 to reduce stuttering (which worked really well) but with the FC3 bits it gave me some flickering shadows. So I turned it down from 3 to 1 and the flickering is gone.

yeah i tried your fix for stuttering rather as i noticed at a dead run or going fast enough i could still be less smooth then i desired. i am pleased to report setting pre-rendered frames to 1 instead of application controlled or the common 3, you get a much smoother experience. though i didn't check the frame rate hit. will report back later

I get the flickering shadows occasionally too, with max pre-rendered frames left at default. When it happens, I just restart the game and they go away.

It worked for me. Those texture ghostings were really pissing me off every time I get back from menu to game. I played for around 2 hours so far and those ghosting textures never occurred since. Vsync off for buttery smooth here as well!

I'm getting those too, it's like an old layer of texture is laying on the screen, looks like texture from a second a go since they move with the actually game but are delayed, I can also provide a screenshot if needed.

I am using the new 344.75 drivers with 780ti's in sli and the compatibility bit "0x02402C05 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3)" is the only working profile at this point.

The problem is I have a 24" Dell 4k monitor and 1080p works, but the minute I change the settings to 3840x2160 the scaling for the second card drops to about 5% no matter which bits I use. (you can see this in the upper left quadrant of the pic under gpu usage).

Has anyone had this issue or have any insight?

So I have GT 750m's and the shadow problem seems to be fixed. But I am getting shit FPS. Even on low settings I am around 25-30 FPS in some areas. If I can run games like Guild Wars 2 and Watch Dogs on higher settings, Far Cry shouldn't be a problem right? The best results seemed to be with the batman numbers. Anyone have any thoughts on fixing this FPS issue? Or is it that the games is actually too much for my 2x GT 750m's?

Also I tried turning off SLI and FPS dropped by like 5-10.

UPDATE: I went back to the recommended numbers and FPS is back to 40-50 on high. Of course the shadows are flickering again, but I guess I will try some combinations of the rec numbers and others. Recommended for the SLI Bits (not the dx1x) is just 0x00000000. Maybe it has something to do with that?

I have tried SLI bits (non dx1x) as 0x00000000 while using various values for the dx1x...I saw zero change and didn't expect to. In all reality the second set of SLI bits does nothing since Far Cry 4 is a DirectX 10 or better game and the second SLI bits is for DirectX 9 which Far Cry 4 does not support. So that said the big SLI bits issue is with the SLI dx1x bits value and you can feel free to not change the second set when using any of the fixes.

I am not sure if im doing something wrong but this doesnt work for me, i am new to Nvidia Inspector so please help me recognize what i am doing wrong:

1) Change SLI compatibility bits (dx1x) to - 0x081902F5 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3)
2) Change SLI compatibility bits to - 0x02402C05 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3)

Hit apply changes and launch the Game through Uplay.

Ghosting and shadows persist, they lessen when i turn Anti Aliasing off but they dont go away completely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
