It has an A4-5000 CPU and AMD Radeon HD 8330 graphics. Gaming or anything too high performance won't be done on this laptop; it will be used for text processing, web browsing, slide shows, videos, etc. Would it run well?
Thanks for letting me know! I know AMD has a bad record for linux support, but since this is the case, I'm glad.
skittle :
Yes more than enough to run any desktop enviorment. Gnome, KDE, Unity etc.. Even many games will run just fine.
Also the opensource drivers will support hardware accelerated video playback.
AMD historically has bad a back track record, but in the last two years significant improvements have been made to their opensource driver. What happened: AMD started to release documentation to their hardware.
Just be sure to use the latest version of your linux distrobution (ie ubuntu 14.10 but not 12.04). The driver for these particular cards (radeonsi) is relatively new and actively developed with each kernel version.
