Alright so I'm new to the site (hi all) and I have read the stickies so I hope I'm following all of the rules. However, I didn't directly copy the template suggested in one of them because 90% of them don't fit my specific situation.
Here's the deal, I'm one of the idiots, unfortunately, who obviously failed to heed the system requirements properly for DA:I. I have a dual core, and not a quad core. I guess I just sort of ignored the CPU portion of the system requirements since my e8400 has always been enough. Not amazing, but capable of playing anything I have thrown at it at least at medium settings with decent fps with my gtx560TI.
I have been playing computer games for roughly ten years and DA:O is by far my favorite so far. Needless to say I was absolutely stoked to play DA:I. I would love to be able to just go to the store and fork out a ton of money to purchase a new quadcore and could ordinarily probably do that but I just had a child which is seriously hindering my budget lol. That being said I still make a decent living and can relatively soon afford an upgrade. Although, I lack the know how needed to do this the cheapest. This is where I hope you guys can help.
It is to my understanding that with the current motherboard I have I'm not able to just simply buy a quad core processor. Something to do with the wrong chipset or something similar to that way over my head. So which is the best option? I have an e8400, 4 gigs of ram, and a GTX560TI. Would it be better for me to strip my case, buy a new quad core compatible motherboard and a new processor? Then just add everything I have to it? Or I also saw on craigslist in my area someone selling a Gateway GT5674 for $180. These are the specs listed for the computer MODEL:GATEWAY GT5674 SPEED;2.2GHZ QUADCORE HDD;500GB ROM;DVDRW/SDCARD READER OS; WINDOWS VISTA. Now as far as I can tell once I add my GTX 560TI this computer would be above recommended specs. Well except for the OS but that's an easy fix AFAIK... But can this computer even hold my GTX 560TI? What about the power supply? I have a 700w corsair that I can rob from my current build but will it fit? I don't know how compatible all of this is. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
