my problem is that in order to get the latest amd drivers i need to upgrade to 8.1 but everytime i upgrade to 8.1 from the store it, once installed 8.1's windows explorer will crash making it unusable. so ive been refreshing to 8. is there a way to upgrade to 8.1 and prevent this?

make sure after you upgrade to also install the latest updates. Go to settings Update and recovery check for updates then install them. Do this after you have windows 8.1
