I play PC games on an HDTV. My video card is a GTX 680. I always use vsync so my FPS synced with the HDTV are always around 60fps. The GTX 680 usually gets me around 60fps with most all games. My question is would it do any good to upgrade the GTX 680 to something like the GTX 980 if my FPS are always locked at 60?

Solution

yes, you should be able to turn up more detail settings and still get the 60fps, assuming you arent cpu bottlenecked and the settings arent cpu bound, which some detail settings can be.

Thanks. The GTX 680 has 2GB of ram and the 980 has 4GB. The 980 will also be able to do DirectX 12? Is that right? There are some games that I have to lower some settings to make sure I get the 60fps. Would a 980 help and be more future proof?
