I am building a new gaming pc and am looking for opinions. I am not planning on overclocking or using more than one video card, but my current pc is getting really slow.

You only need 8gb of ram for gaming so you can get a better gpu.. for the money you save you could get a r9 290.. way more power.. a little noisy because it is best to get one with 3 fans but overall a good card when you don't xfire it.

That's a good idea, however I do prefer a quiet computer, are there any less noisy options?

yes but is un neccesary. u can run assassins creed unity easily with an fx 8300, and is cheaper. it also supports up to 1866mhz ram where the i5 on does 1600mhz.

Thanks I hadn't realized that a z motherboard was only $3 more. I also read that the stock cooler was loud and found a quieter one at newegg. :)

You will know why if I tell you or you read Tom's articles...

It says it requires more power than it needs because not all power supplies are high quality and have horrible efficiency so it to cover there asses.

i5 is simply better for gaming.. even if a game can use all 8 threads of the 83xx it has low ipc (instructions per cycle) the i5 has around 50 percent better ipc so it will need less threads to get the job done not to mention by the time the majority of games actually use 8 threads the am3+ wont be sold anymore.

I checked into your suggestion, and while the 290 is a faster card a lot more people had issues keeping it running. I saw mostly 4 egg ratings on newegg.
