I'm planning on upgrading this old rig, but it has to be cost efficient. I'm planning on adding more RAM, but I'm not sure if these specs would be sufficient enough. I am expecting to have at least High on some of the newer games and from about 45-60 FPS.

My Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 2.33 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4,00GB (3,44 GB usable)
System type: 32-bit operating system
Running on Windows 7 Ultimate
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

Any tips would be appreciated :)

Then in that case you could upgrade your motherboard and processor without having to buy more RAM.

If you have one stick of RAM then you can buy a matching stick (try to get the same make, model, speed, latency and voltage) to get 8Gb, otherwise buy another 2x 2Gb if your motherboard has 4 RAM slots in total (some have only 2)

If you want to use more RAM though, you'll need a 64 bit OS.

Your RAM is probably DDR2 which means it'll be really expensive to buy 4Gb modules and there's not any point if you're running a 32 bit OS. I honestly don't think there's much that can be done for this system, certainly don't expect any dramatic improvements. You might get 30-60 fps on newer games at medium settings

some changes you could make are....

- Upgrade to a better GPU. You could get a GTX 750 or 750Ti and this would save you having to buy a PSU too. Cost around $100 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn750oc2gi

- Get an SSD, it should make boot times and loading times much quicker. Just make sure your motherboard has the option for ACHI in the BIOS. Cost around $70 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sdssdhp128gg25

Otherwise, you may as well just build a new system unfortunately
