I don't know much about computers but on my stick of memory it says 8gb yet in system properties It says 4gb. I was wondering how I can change this so it's using the whole 8gb? Thanks for reading
Haha ok I think I'll go for that option. I'll go and get 2 different sticks of memory because I don't know enough to start messing and trying to make this 8gb one work to its maximum could I just take out the memory and try it in the other slots to see if I could get it to work?
As a last resort, yeah it couldnt hurt, turn off the pc, switch DIMM, turn on check, rinse and repeat^^

Do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?
Iv got 64-bit windows 8.1 on it and how can I find out if my motherboard supports it? I'm not even sure what model it is all I know is it's msi?
Write "dxdiag" in windows search or download Speccy, and you can find what motherboard you have. Then search for it on google and see how much ram it supports.
max memory on that board is 16GB, so try removing one RAM stick, and if it still sais 4GB, remove that one, and put in the other, etc.. maybe one stick is faulty, if both read 4GB, try switching slots, i could be a bad slot.
Okey, it should support 16gb ram. If you recently bougth the ram, you might want to consider returning it for a 2x4gb ram instead, since dual channel mode is better. The ram might also be faulty.
Actually forget my comment, i thought it was 2x4 sticks. On the MOBO instruction manual, it should say which RAM slots are priority, best performance etc.. make sure you put it into the right one?
