Hello!

I am building a "budget" computer with my Dad. We are looking to build a fast computer that can handle gaming with okay resolution and frame rates for around $700-800. Id like advice on selecting a CPU and GPU for this build.

I was thinking about a AMD APU. Would a Haswell do better for us? And I have no idea which GPU to select.

Let me know what you would choose,

Thanks,

If you are truly doing light gaming, go with AMD's latest APU, the A10-7850k. You will get great processing power that will give you a decent performance on many games at low to medium settings, some even high settings.

You also save a bunch of money in the end with buying one. Plus you have an option with buying another GPU later in the road for more high end gaming graphics capability, or if you want to at this point in time with the build, get any of the AMD R7 GPU's. You can easily crossfire it with the GPU that is in the APU.

If you are not familiar with the term crossfiring, it basically means you are pulling power from both to give an improved performance, depening on the environment and hardware it can be anywhere from 10-50% increase in performance.

It is also recommended to also buy AMD RAM memory and getting the higher speed RAM versions such as 2100 or 2400Mhz of AMD DDR3 RAM, in order to get the best performance form an APU.

this is where my thoughts first went as well. big question however is what exactly do you need for your $7-800? will you need a complete system such as case, monitor, keyboard/mouse and OS? or do you only need the guts of the pc? this will affect the recommendations as obviously the case, os and such will take a chunk out of your budget off the top.

This will basically be for everything, excluding mouse and keyboard. It seems manageable with these two suggestions. I was hoping to get an SSD in addition to the HD so I may opt for a AMD APU to save a little for that.

I think I will opt for this route. Do I need a special mobo for crossfire or is this pretty universal?
