Upgrading an old PC or building a new one?

Hey there

So, I have a very old PC (geforce 9600gt, intel e2200, ddr2 ram) - at this point it became totally useless I can't really play *anything*

Now, it has a 550W psu (I don't know why, its overkill for this hardware) and in THEORY the motherboard (P7N SLI platinum) could handle core 2 quad processors and maybe a geforce 650 ti.

What I'd like to know is it even worth to put money into a pc this old? Wait some more and just build a new one with fresh hardware (which all in all would cost many times what the upgrade would cost) ?

if you can get the parts dirt cheap or free then go for it and install them. paying the prices for them new isn't worth it in any way. i give away pc's i make from donated parts and am starting to see this caliber of pc being donated since it's about time to upgrade those 2006 ish pc's. you might find someone giving the pieces away or selling em dirt cheap on craigslist or something like that.

would not put much money into though as it would do little for you. for $30 i'd leave it as is and not bother. less i'd consider for a core 2 quad
