I am planning to build a pc and chose f2a55m hd2 motherboard and it has 2.0x16 pcie slot for gpu and I am planning to buy a gpu with 3.0pcie, the question is will it work if I put the 3.0x16 pcie graphics card to the 2.0x16 pcie slot motherboard? And if it work will it cause a risk to the motherboard or slow the performance?

Solution
95% of the time, it will work with no extra work on your part. The PCIe standard is supposed to be backwards-compatible, but there are minor changes from version to version that occasionally require a BIOS update. There will be no perceptible performance difference unless you're running multiple high-end cards in SLI/CrossFire.
