It was working fine just yesterday , but today when I plug it in my laptop , the white light indicator flashes for 10 seconds then just goes off, and the hdd is not detected by my laptop. I have tried all 3 ports on my laptop. The ports are fine , as the pen drive works fine on these ports.

Note: Only on the third port the hdd looks like getting installed for a second

, a message appears that the hdd is being installed , the message window disappears and nothing happens. And then the light indicator on the hdd goes off. Any solutions?

That's not good mate. If You have some precious data, first thing I'd try is to put the HDD out of the box, and hit it either to cradle, or directly to PC and check it's health. There's a huge chance that controller in the external box died, according to what You write.

Will I be able to extract the data from the HDD?

If You'll listen to me and put it out of the box, and stick it to the computer directly via sata and power, or cradle, than most likely yes.

In case You'll try to repair the HDD in some magical [non-existent] way, You may end up like one guy here from forums, with dead HDD.

the problem was not in the HDD, but both my laptops didn't have the card reader driver , because I installed some beta chipset drivers (AMD) , so re installing chipset drivers helped. Thanks anyways.
