Far Cry 4 causing computer reboot

When I open Far Cry 4 it goes through some of the initial cinematics and right before it starts the loading screen my computer shuts down and restarts. I then get the "You computer was not shut down properly" screen.

If I start Far Cry when I very first boot windows it loads fine and plays fine (have played nearly 5 hours so far).

Is anyone else experiencing an error like this?

System
i5-4690k (4.4ghz oc)
GTX 970
Gigabyte z97x-sli
8gb ddr3 1600 gskill ram
Logitech G700 mouse
Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard
plantronics gamecom 780 headset

Also I'm on the latest nvidia driver (344.75)

I have a EVGA Supernova 750. It isn't the psu or a unstable overclock as it only does it in Far Cry 4 and only before the game has fully loaded. Once loaded the game plays perfectly fine. And I have had my setup for nearly a month now without a single crash in hours of other games including borderland the pre sequel, crysis, L4D2, FEAR, the witcher, etc. I have been on a major gaming roll this past month since building this rig and this is the first time this has happened and it only happens at this one specific time.

Well I took off my Overclock and it hasn't done it again yet, but I have only loaded the game twice since removing the OC and it didn't do it every time previously. I still do not believe my OC was unstable as I have never had this issue in any other game. I even tried Far Cry 3 yesterday before removing my OC multiple times with 100% success and it uses the exact same engine.

Before removing my OC I tried loading it with my keyboard and mouse unplugged to see if one of those 2 devices was causing an issue. It loaded 5 times in a row before having the problem. I think in my case it is basically the perfect storm of issues all combining into one. I have had issues in the past with my keyboard causing slow post due to the motherboard thinking it was a boot-able device (its a known issue with z97 boards and the sidewinder x4) which is the only reason I even tried this.

I haven't tried reverting back to the previous nvidia driver, but I would think it would be a more widespread issue if it was just the driver and not just 2 people out of the thousands that play it on PC with nvidia graphics.

i have some issues with the past when my pc would reboot only when playing dota 2, upgraded my psu and gpu and the problem is gone, i only have this problem now when playing Shadow of Mordor on ultra settings and the pc would freeze, playing it on high settings only will not make it to crash my pc.

I have the exact same problem. It crashes right after the Far Cry 4 logo comes up and when it loads into my account. The computer just restarts. No blue screen, nothing.

I have dozens of other games on my computer and none of them cause this problem so I know it is not my hardware. It is something with this game.

After the computer restarts, I can load into the game and play it fine.

I have an AMD R290x video card with the latest AMD beta drives so I know for a fact it is not your NVidia card causing the problem. It is the game.

I have the same problem except that Far Cry 4 always makes my pc restart. Additionally, I think it has done damage to my gtx 770. Now, as i'm typing, i'm seeing the top of my screen jump to the left every so often. No overclocks whatsoever.

Hello!

I actually happen to have the same problem as well. The game seems to reboot my PC at random times. Once it happened during the early mission where you are told to deal with the wild animals and destroy the wolf den. Ironically, my system rebooted just when the game told me that the cave is about to collapse.

I am able to run other games like Battlefield 4, CoD: Advanced Warfare and Shadows of Mordor on the highest graphical settings without any problems whatsoever. Any idea what/who is to blame here?

My system:
Intel, Core i5-4670 (3.4GHz, 6MB Cache, LGA1150);
MSI, GeForce GTX 970, 4GB, GDDR5, GAMING
Western Digital, 1TB, 7200rpm, 64MB, Sata III, Caviar Blu
Crucial Ballistix Sport, 8GB, DDR3, 1600MHz, CL9, Single stick
Asrock, Z87M Pro4
Inter-Tech, 650W, aPFC, 120mm fan

Sounds like a PSU issue, are you sure your PSU produces 650w. I would back off your overclocks to stock settings to see if it continues restarting, you might be overloading the PSU.

If you want to try another verification run Prime95 and OCScanner at the same time if your PC reboots it's most likely your PSU.

Well, I don't think it actually produces 650W, but I used to have a Gigabyte GTX760, which (as far as I know) has the same power requirements (if not higher) than the MSI GTX970. This never happened with the old card, however I was not playing FC4 at the time.

Are you sure that running both tests at the same time won't damage my computer? And what options should I choose? I see that both programs offer plenty to choose from.

Also, I'm not running any overclocks other than what MSI offers by default.

Truth be told, you two should get better power supplies regardless. A cheap, low quality psu can fry your entire build at any moment. A solid quality psu should be thought of as protection from that. Get a Seasonic or xfx psu and even if that is not where the problem lies, you can sleep better at night.

Agreed, you can ruin your entire investment with a bad PSU.

Good choice. I have the 620W semi-modular version of that PSU and it has served me flawlessly since the day it arrived.
