I need a straightout answer no fan boys please! whats better the r9 290x or gtx 970 performance graphic fps wise.

Solution
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 is better... but if you want to save some cash, the R9 290x is also good though not as much as the GTX 970. And if you want the absolute top card check the Current Top Ten List

290X.... NOT 290

Ok, I copied info from the wrong line, but there isn't much difference in performance between the 290 and 290x. The biggest difference is the price and for the small increase in speed (GD3Mark 343), it's not worth the extra $78.00. You can get much more from a separate $78.00 card. (Obviously not to be used in crossfire).
A few examples:
GeForce GTX 650 1838 $80.00
Radeon HD 7770 2153 $89.99
Radeon HD 6970 3478 $89.99

Radeon R9 290X
Description:
Videocard First Benchmarked: 2013-10-25
Average G3DMark 6857 Overall Rank: 10 Samples 688
Last Price Change: $329.99 USD (2013-11-07)

All you're doing is chasing dragons.

There will always be side to Nvidia and ATI (for as long as ATI lives) asking a difference in a tech forum is like throwing a gold coin into the center homeless people, everyone is going to fight.

Every quarter either ATI or Nvidia will throw out something better and for the real truth it is going to really depend on when you are looking to buy. No matter what you do one of the two will always best the other, the cycle is endless.

For me I used Nvidia for 7 years and wayyyyyyy back in 2002 I switched to ATI (only because Asus made a very stable while clocking card)

There will always be sides for the cards, but the real question is what one do you like. You can make each card work like the other. But if you want to make a difference $$$ for $$$ you still cant beat the R9 295x2... hands down to this day the best on the market for the money.

Peace...

And now let the people speak...
