My budget was round about £1000! Which one would you pick? Or do you think I could get a better build for around the same price? Any suggestions much appreciated :)

Solution

i would go for a similar rig as mentioned in my post except that i would just get a single 970 and sli it when needed

PS- with that kind of a rig , i wouldnt overclock

think - is squeezing (and chances of frying if inexperienced) 5-10FPS (at the best OCs) worth the lifespan reduction ? personally i would say a no , but some do it as a hobby and they get the highest overclocks!!
The first build has better ram and bigger PSU. I would get the first build with the d14 cooler, even if you can swing getting the d14 with the first build I would still but the first one. The 212 evo cooler is still a very good air cooler and is only a few degrees off from the d14.

both rigs are almost identical , so it is up to you

and reganding improvements

1) youur PSU indicates that you dont intend on heavy OCing(plese correct me , if i am mistaken)

therefore i suggest

NOTE

1. changed cpu to 4460

2. changed gpu to gtx 980

3. added a bit cheaper mobo

4. unless you overclock(or mild ones) , stock cpu coolers are fine so removing that NOCTURNA can bring your build to 1010 pounds

hope this helps!

That's very helpful thanks! Cause this will be my first PC and I haven't played much PC gaming at all, I wasn't sure if it was worth overclocking? If you were building a gaming PC for yourself with that budget what would you have?

Thanks that's helped a lot! I'm gonna go for what you said! I'm with you I don't see the point in overclocking it for so little difference! Do you know of any decent monitors for a decent price? ( with a good refresh rate)

depends on your preferrence and rig

standard- 1080p with 60 hz - 19 - 22"

gtx 970 - 1440p @60/144 - 24- 27"

gtx 980/sli 970 - 4k

note , if you go for 4k i would suggest a TV maybe 46' (but mind the cost)

otherwise if you can get it , a 1440p @60 will do

if you want the cheapest got for the 1080p (maybe 144hz)

screen type

IPS - genrally better image quality ,larger response time- might have ghosting

TN- lesser image quality , smaller response time

there are exceptions to this case too

As for brands - i would suggest samsung asus sony or maybe viewsonic( i dont know that much about monitor brands)

I would suggst to go for the one which fits your wallet

A budget would help a lot too

hope this helps!!

if you find an answer post it!/pick a solution!

sorry for the long posts!
