Recently I replaced my r9 290 with an aftermarket cooler.

You can't control the GPU fan from the GPU fan slot.

I tried to use Speedfan to control the speed but doesn't give me the option to change the system fan.

Currently the tempature is hitting 60c on idle and hits 90c just for surfing the web. Seems like the fan is only hitting 1190rpm.

Any other software I could use to control the system fan?

If you were to read the reviews or watch install videos for this model or model one. They would all say that plugging the gpu fan on the system fan is the only way to control and adjust the fan the way you want it. Plugging it into the GPU fan slot will force it to run at full throttle.

Sorry about the link. Using my iPod to avoid using my desktop until I find a solution.

Here is the name.

GELID Solutions GC-VGA02-02 Ball VGA Cooler

I read positive reviews about the fan. The option was between this and the artic xtreme iv. The artic had a lot of negative reviews about how it was cheaply made. So the choice was obvious to go with this one since the issue was a simply to use the system fan. I didn't expect to have too much trouble trying to figure this out.

I connected the fan to one of my psu headers and now it seems to idle about 56c and randomly hit 62c. Not sure if its even at 100% since I don't hear it very loud. I tested the tempature on a YouTube video and it spiked to 73c so I turned it off.

Turns out there was an update that was needed to make the GPU fan controllable, but that still leaves my r9 290 hitting 50c on idle and slowly climbs to 95c when watching a video. What did I do wrong? I checked all the screws, made sure there was enough thermal paste (not too much either), and leaving the fans at 100%. Any way to fix this issue?

Edit: long story short, got the wrong fan. Could someone lock this thread.
