hallo

i would like to speed up my compaq presario sr2150nx

im little experienced with computers (have build 2 before) i dont know if i have chosen good parts to work together well but i had it working with no issues.... still i had feeling it could be faster .

this time i ask YOU (experts) to help me to do it right :)

computer wil be using mostly for work , sometimes game, movie or music , but i want to have it running smoothly at low cost.. i got this deskop for free and dont want to put too much $$ money in this old pc.

my motherboard is RC415ST-HM r1.0

want to upgrade

- graphic card /// i found on this website people recommended
GIGABYTE GV-R775OC-1GI Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16
i have pci express but dont know if its 3.0 supported and what if not ?? or is it ok ??

- add more memory (its cheap / website says "Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 2 GB" ) ???

i also have some different processor saved from my old builds, but im not sure what it is .. can i just connect it in and see if it works, check model ??

is windows 8.1 ok on this pc?? im going to format now

Solution
im sorry if im raining on your parade here but i wouldnt spend a dime on this rig.if your motherboard limits you to 2gb of ram even win7 isnt going to run well.the celeron d was a real slow cpu as well.there is just nothing even remotely cost effective that you can do to this computer.i would save my shekels for something else.

yes drivers , hp website dont have anything where do i look what do i do ??

If HP's website doesn't list drivers for Windows 8/8.1, you most likely won't be able to use it, Windows 7 is the newest OS that HP offers drivers for you PC model. You could max out the ram to 2GB using 2 1GB sticks. You could install the graphics card in your system. PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.1, at least on paper. Sometimes though there can be issues with specific motherboards. After a quick web search, I saw someone with the same PC as you with a 7750 installed they mentioned it worked fine, but they did upgrade the PSU as well. Being a low wattage card though, I doubt that should be necessary. I would double check the dimensions of your PC though to make sure it can physically fit. It's not a high power card and doesn't need any PCIE Power connections from the power supply. What is the model number for your extra CPU?
