Why is my HTC One M8 still Android 4.4.2?

I got this phone new and unlocked from ebay around half a year ago. It has Verizon branding on the back but currently i'm using a T-mobile "powered" carrier. To be more specific, I went into Walmart and saw they had this plan call "Family Mobile powered by T-mobile" for like $30 a month so I've been using the service ever since I have the phone.
The thing is, my phone never seems to get any software updates. I've read articles about how if an update for Android is ready, I should get a notification and it'll update automatically, But I've never seen this happen and even til this day the phone's software is Android 4.4.2. Is this because my phone is unlocked and my weird Walmart carrier doesn't send out the updates?
I've tried manually updating the software as well but it always says no update detected.

You won't get the update till the carrier tests and approves it, which could be a while after the release. Nice phone BTW, I just replaced my lost one and was looking at that model, but the LG G3 had almost the same specs but was a lot cheaper although I wish it came in a smaller screen.

HTC one M8 factory os is kitkat 4.4.2 if any official updates will be launched u will be notified to update. As kitkat comes from 4.4 to 4.4.4 so that will be the final update u can refer this http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/29/walmart-call-of-duty-advanced-warfare-deal-early-release/
