Okay, I made a really big mistake earlier this year by buying a gaming laptop for $2800. Obviously, I could have gotten a really hardcore gaming desktop with that amount of money. Im thinking of selling my laptop and my desktop to get a slick desktop and an okayish laptop for work etc.

For the past year and a half, ive been really busy to keep up with hardware stuff for computers so I don't really know too much about them anymore.

Anyways, here are my computers specs:

MOBO: Gigabyte Z68XP----UD3

CPU: Intel i7 2600k 3.4ghz

GPU: Forsa GTX 650

RAM: 8gb 1333mhz + 4gb (mhz unknown)

hdd: 2TB seagate something

psu: 500W gigabyte power supply.

My laptop:

MSi GT70 Dragon Edition 2

CPU: Intel I7--4700mq @ 2.4ghz boost @ 3.4ghz

GPU: nvidia GTX 780M

Storage: 3X124GB SSD & 750gb HDD @ 7200RPM

RAM: 16GB ddr3 1666mhz

Thank you :)

The desktop while it has a great CPU, if you were to tell it, you'd only get like $500 for it maybe, the GPU is really bad and doesn't even come close to playing any of the newer games (mostly because Ubisoft sucks but lets move on). The Laptop i hope you didn't pay too much for it, while the GTX 780M isn't that bad as a laptop gaming card, (actually it probably beats your desktop's GPU) it is old in the eyes of buyers as almost 80% of all models available in gaming laptops are the GTX 800M series with more and more GTX 900M series popping up every week. While the CPU/SSD/RAM configs are nice, but the average person you're probably selling it to won't understand why they should pay more for a RAID SSD set up like that. I would put this...

I would put this at $1000 conservatively possibly $1500 liberally as you can go out, buy the GT70 DOMINATOR with the i7-4710HQ, 8 GB RAM, 128 SSD+1TB HDD and the GTX 970M for like $1500 brand new. (and thats even in CANADIAN dollars)

ULTIMATELY, you could reduce costs by keeping the tower, replacing the GPU/PSU and keep going with it for another 2 years if you upgrade and play your cards properly (i.e. look for a black friday sale and get a decent PSU thats around 650W, and see if they have any clearance GTX 780 TIs because the GTX 970 and GTX 980s are out. the GTX 780 Ti is equivalent to the GTX 970 which is brand new when looking at DESKTOP cards only). Total estimated cost, $350. Estimated extended life expectancy, 18 months to 24 months.
