Im currently building my own desktop and have all the parts except the case which is pretty important in the build process. So I'm trying to save myself some time and was wondering if i could go ahead and clean install the OS onto the SSD from my laptop? I have a Win 8.1pro disc and I have a usb to SATA connector. So how would you guys go about this? Would it work...would i run into problems not having all the hardware from the forthcoming desktop attached to the SSD?

Just as an anecdotal data point...I'm in the process of fixing a few laptops from family members.
Broken screens, missing keys, and other issues.

Moving a drive from one Compaq laptop to an almost identical Compaq laptop did not work.
CQ60-215DX to CQ60-211DX. Windows 7 Home Premium.

Poof...fails on boot.
Put it back in the original laptop, works as normal.

Unless you bought a case that includes the PSU, you don't need it. Set the motherboard on a non-conductive surface, hook up everything and install Windows 8.1.
