Can't install Windows 7 in UEFI mode.

I bought a Samsung 840 Evo 250 gb SSD to use as a boot drive. I partitioned it as GPT. But I can't get the drive to be in UEFI mode in the Bios. I can't find the option to set it to UEFI mode.

Mobo: Gigabyte Z87-HD3 (supports UEFI)
I have Win7 64bit installed on a 1tb hdd right now. In the BIOS, the DVD drive initially appeared as UEFI but after I updated the BIOS firmware, it doesn't have the UEFI label anymore.

I now installed Windows again to the old 1tb hdd. I want to make sure I initialize and format the SSD properly. How should I configure the SSD as GPT, should I format it, or just initialize it and NOT format?

Please help, I'm so confused. I've been trying since yesterday but I'm stuck. Thanks a lot in advance.

It's not just Gigabyte. Pretty much all UEFI BIOS are set up that way, for the exact reason that you mentioned. Casual users can make a few minor changes or use the OC'ing utility in there, or advanced users can make the more involved changes that are either necessary or desired.

After several hours of trial and error, I just gave up and converted the SSD to MBR. Installed the OS with Legacy Boot. Cant be arsed with that GPT and UEFI bull... Caused me way too much headache. Gpt's only benefit for me was a bit faster boot and the feeling of being up-to-date but I decided it really isn't worth it.

It seems that Gigabyte does have an advanced BIOS mode. Why they have that is really beyond me since BIOS is not something casual users will be tampering with anyway. I haven't tried it yet but thanks for the response.
