This is my rig I have had for 2 years
[i5 2500k]
[haf 912]
[asrock z68 ex3]
[powercooler 6870]
[8gb g.skill ripjaw series]
[OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
][hitachi 500gb]

I want a new GPU but don't know if I need to upgrade anything else like my cpu/mobo/psu...

I have my eyes on a 970, will only be purchasing items from Frys electronics(don't trust deliveries to my apartment). I am willing to buy a new psu but only if I HAVE to. Is 970 the best 300-400 card around? anything to wait for? I don't hardcore pc game anymore, I just feel its time for an upgrade.

So I know nothing of Overclocking, but I am willing to do it. I am going to Frys today to pick up a 970, can you recommend a cpu cooler and its simple enough to oc right? just need a cooler and change settings in bios

It won't bottleneck it as it's still a very good CPU.
I would recommend the Hyper 212 EVO by Coolermaster.
Yes it's about changing settings in BIOS. Not simple tho, you should check out some guides on the Internet first.

i recommend a cooler master hyper 212 evo since it is the most reliable and affordable cpu cooler.. it is perfect for overclocking ....

i suggest you to look up for an overclocking guide and learn how to overclock an intel i5 2500k

The only way to tell is if your CPU is pulling 100% and your GPU is pulling only 50%.. Run Afterburner or something similar while you game and then alt+tab out and check readings. I'd say with your CPU, you're definitely bottlenecking it.

i oc to 4.5 ghz and i still get 45 fps in sleeping dogs. I did a stress test using furmax and I had a load temp of 45-50 on cpu and 70 on gpu, I feel the oc is safe, but still low fps?
