Hey guys, this is my first build that will be used only for gaming. I'm hoping it will last me 3-5 years before I have to upgrade it, but when that time comes, I will add another GTX 970, a 800W+ PSU, and probably a new MoBo and replace the monior with a 1440p 120hz or 144hz one (which by then my dual 970 will be able to handle, right?). But soon after I actually build the PC I'm going to add an SSD and change up the fan configuration (probably replace the 212 EVO in a few months if I choose to really push the GPU). Tell me what you guys honestly think about my build.

@RazerZ Thanks! since i plan on adding another 970 in a while from now (3-4 yrs), I think the cheaper 550w will do for now and plus i'm already stretching my starting budget by nearly $150..
That's an incredibly cheap IPS 23" monitor! Is it really 5MS? Do you have the monitor? If so, are you experiencing any screen tearing and why did u choose it over a TN monitor. I thought TN monitors were better because they were faster in response time. Oh yeah and does that monitor have matte display because I can't stand glossy displays..Thanks! :)

IPS panels have better color representation and better viewing angles vs TN panels have better response times
The difference is basically visual quality vs response time, and a 3-4 ms delay difference is worth sacrificing in order to get better quality. For professional gamers it might not be worth it but the majority of people it is.

The monitor has a matte display. I can't stand glossy displays either. It really has a 5ms display. Since they both run at 60hz you won't see a difference between them in speed. No need to worry about screen tearing.

IPS have much better color/ viewing angles compared to TN panel monitors. While I don't own this monitor, I have used other similarly specd IPS monitors and as far as speed goes I couldn't tell a difference from a TN panel with the same specs (5ms response time, 60hz refresh rate).

I have not done the research on it but someone said Planet Side 2.

Tradesman said to look at it like 8gb is more a budget build option to get by on so it is my thought you may have to close your music player and browser.

@iron8orn @tradesman I never considered getting 16gb ram simply because I'll only be doing gaming and if I want I can add more ram but I highly doubt I'll need to in the near future (who knows, RAM may even get cheaper by then) but as for now it isn't worth it at all
oh and @iron8orn of course a game like PS2 would require a massive amount of memory (its like 1000vs1000 on HUGE maps) but I don't even play games like that so it wouldn't matter :p

@Razerz Wow honestly the monitor u suggested is awesome, the 5ms is great for me since I don't play competitively and prob never will (all I play is BF4) and this is the first time i considered an IPS model and since u stated this one won't have screen tearing I'll prob get this one. I'll try to find some articles and video reviews on it and then make my decision, but thanks A LOT for suggesting this!

I didn't say 8 GB as a budget build, but if planning on keeping the system a few years, DRAM use continues to rise, think back 2009 or so, every one saying 2 GB is more than you'll ever use, 2011, it was you'll never need more than 4 GB, 2013 never need more than 8GB - today, there's already games calling for 8GB ...So a year or so down the road will you want to replace the 8GB with 16GB at a higher price than even today, or already have it.

DDR4 will be in full swing and DDR3 prices will be up, just as DDR2 prices are now

Great point, and although I would love to get 16gb to future-proof my pc even more, unfortunately my budget won't allow me to get 16gb as of right now, but as I said i may add it later if needed (maybe even by next yr)

Did not mean to take what you said out of context.. Should have just copied and pasted it.

Really as of now you could have to close out of music player, browser, anti-virus and any else not completely needed but soon it will be just that you need more.

I came to say budget build option because what is a i5 k and gtx 970 worth if your ram using up pagefile slows you down or makes you stutter.

@iron8orn I don't mean to offend you but I think you are over exaggerating..barely any games will cause you to do that and I would probably not even be playing the games that do. I'm not the type of gamer to buy many games, i usually buy and play two games for the entire year, even two years. I plan on playing GTA V and BF4 for until BFBC3 is released, which my rig will prob be able to handle.
