This is my first build.
Thermaltake Level 10 GT
Asus Maximus VII Hero
Intel i7-4790k
ADATA XPG V1.0 2x8GB AX3U1600W8G9-DB
EVGA FTW GTX970
Enermax Platimax EPM850EWT
Using stock cooler until cooler master 240M arrives in mail.

I stripped it all back down once it didn't start. The board is sitting on cardboard, 8-pin and 24-pin from psu are connected, the chassis power/reset/led leads are connected as well. One stick of ram is in the third slot.

The board's start/reset buttons as well as red LEDs are illuminated but that's all I'm getting right now.

I checked for bent pins, the socket looks fine.

I've tried switching the chassis power button leads to the board and turning it on using that button but neither orientation work. The mobo start button doesn't work either.

Took out the CMOS battery and closed the circuit with a screwdriver as suggested in another thread.

I'm don't really know where to go from here.

I've tried that with the ram stick in each slot with no success. I'm not getting any beeps with the ram taken out either though... should I try getting another speaker?

If I can't find a psu I'll go buy one as a tester but I'd like to try using a multi-meter to test my current one, is that a viable approach?

Got the psu tested, turned out to be a dud.

I bought a corsair HX850 and it powered it up, got a beep and everything. Now I'll start building it up piece by piece to make sure everything is fine. I'm disappointed that the Enermax was a dud, it had great reviews and had a high-end price. Unfortunately, I don't feel like waiting longer for a replacement so I bought something locally available and my request to refund got approved on newegg. Thanks for the help.

This PSU seems to be good. I know I can get another enermax but I know it'll just be another 3-4 weeks before I'm back to this point due to living in Newfoundland (shipping takes forever if the items aren't in the Ontario warehouse). I'm happy with just getting my money back on the enermax...unless you suggest caution to using the current model of PSU that I've gotten my system to work on.
