How's this look? just abt to put the order in & need some reassurance it'll be a solid gaming rig with as much future proofing i can do with the little money i have.

Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K $210

GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $100

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 996995 $81

Rosewill Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Cases BLACKHAWK Black by Rosewill
$81

PowerColor TurboDuo AXR9 270 2GBD5-TDHE/OC Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card $110

the price is $582 - $50 MIR + $2 shipping = $534

I'm going to reuse my 600w psu & WD Black 500GB hdd. All tho, i may add a 250 GB SSD into the rig if a deal works out.
I'm not sure i can afford the R9 270 so I may use my old GTX 560. I know that'll be a choke point but i'll be able to buy a better card later on. I'd love to get a gtx 970 but that is currently out of my price point.
i don't plan on OC'ing

Thanks guys,
i haven't built a rig in a few years so i'm out of the loop but the kiddo needs a new rig and the black friday prices are too good to pass up

Should the stock cooling be ok?

oddly, if i'm reading the benchmark charts correctly, the unlocked 4690k is the fastest and cheaper then a comp. cpu.
They're all within $5 dollars of each other.
given that i want an i5 46xx

what would you suggest as a better gpu?

Did you already buy your parts?

Yes the 4690k is the fastest CPU, but for gaming you won't see a difference between a stock i5 and an overclocked i5. Could have gone with a i5 4440 for $168 and a cheaper motherboard to get a R9 280x or R9 290.

i've bought some of the parts- not the cpu and they can be returned if i change my mind

I am planning on buying a much better gpu down the road- so the idea is to have a backbone in place that can accommodate the better vid card.

my thought is that it'll be so much better then the current rig my son will be happy for a year and next Christmas i'll get him a killer GPU...

understood
and believe me, I hear you but i'm really looking for this system to last a few years so i'd rather invest in the basics like mobo&cpu with planned upgrades in future years. I got close to 7 years out of the last system with a Q6600 & upgrading bits & parts (ram/vid cards etc). I had 3 different vid cards in that rig.

plus the kiddo is 15-- no need to get him use to the good stuff early on <grin> IOW, he's getting a box of parts & hours of my time under the tree.
