My internet service provider at home is COX. They recommended me to buy Motorola SB6141 as modem.

I know I have to buy router that supports 802.11ac if I want to use 802.11ac. But I'm not sure if I also need modem that supports 802.11ac.

Do I also need to buy modem that supports 802.11ac? Does Motorola SB6141 support 802.11ac?

Can someone please recommend me good modem and router for 802.11ac?

Solution
The SB6141 is a modem-only device. AC is a wireless standard, so your modem does not need to support this.

The Asus RT-AC87U and Netgear R7000 routers get high performance marks. Without knowing your budget, it would be difficult to recommend others, but there are plenty of places to find good media and consumer reviews.

Your modem is fine. The spec you need to worry about there is DocSis 3.0. Wireless AC is entirely dependent on the router that broadcasts the wirless network.

The routers that BuddhaSkoota are great and top of the line, but probably more than you need. I have been using this for the last year and a half:

These are also pretty good on a budget:

Be aware that your clients will also need to have AC adapters to take advantage of AC speeds.
