Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Video Card AMD Radeon R7 200 Series
Memory 8.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

I have 2 monitors, on the main one I use for games, I occasionally get a small checkerboard pattern that replicates previously seen things, e.g. I look at a blue ocean, then to a green grass landscape, half the checkerboard is blue, half is green, it flickers around and randomly disappears.

A few strange things:

-Doesnt appear in screenshots
-If i hover my mouse over it, it stops
-If its happening in GarrysMod, and I minimize it, I t doesnt appear on my desktop, only on certain applications
-Appears in different spots, mainly one spot though, and in different sizes
-This is a new computer

Sorry for the late reply.

Do you have access to another display adapter? Try removing your GPU and using a different GPU, or even integrated graphics if your motherboard has it. Then try reproducing the problem again.

What I'm trying to do is rule out the possibility to hardware problems, and see if it's something software (i.e. driver) related.

On the subject of drivers, I forgot to mention this before - although I doubt it'll fix your issue, update your graphics drivers if you haven't already done so.

I can't tell you if your GPU is malfunctioning, I don't have the knowledge for that. However, I think it would be a good idea for you to re-seat the GPU as what you're describing sounds like it might be a temporary loss of signal. In addition to that, check to see if there are any issues with the pins with whatever connection you're using (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc.) , and make sure they're firmly connected into both the card and both of your monitors.

It might be worth it to ask this question in the Monitor forum. If I may ask, how old are your monitors? I apologize for the crude terminology, but electronics tend to.... get tired, as they age. If they're wearing out, that may be an explanation.

I see you said you have a new computer, if that's the case then I don't think there's a very high chance that your GPU is malfunctioning, unless you ordered the parts yourself and your card got damaged in transit.

If you have access to another display besides the ones you're using now, try using it and try to reproduce the steps that are causing your issues. If the problem doesn't persist on the new display, then the problem lies with your monitor.
