i just got a used amd Athlon 64 x2 5000+ cpu for my dell deminsion e521. when I put it In and boot, all the fans seem to run faster and it doesn't boot. my vga doesent get any connection. when I put my 3800+ cpu back in it works fine and boots fine. I have set a password which is needed to boot. is this the problem?

Solution
Install the 3800+ and boot the system to check everything is working properly and leave it. From what we can see it can't work with that cpu.

It is 10.30 in the morning here in greece so it ok. What I noticed is that 3800+ is a 939 socket and the 5000+ is AM2. These 2 cpus are very different. I am wondering how you fitted the AM2 on the other socket. They may look same but there is a different number of pins and most importantly of all they are different iin their electrical design. You can damage the cpu or the motherboard. You are lucky iit didn't happen previously you fitted it in.

yes yes I see that. what im trying to say is that my 3800+ is am2 as is my 5000+. so lets say that's the case and it fits just fine in the cpu tray, why does it not boot. (Update) my 3800+ works fine with ddr2? at least that's what my ram is

Ok I found this BIOS version http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/dimension-e521/drivers
It seems to be the same with yours but it says Last Updated 03 Nov 2011 so they might have changed something.
You can try updating your BIOS to this (if it is really an update and not the same because unfortunatelly they have only this one) and try again. If it doesn't work I can't help any more. Dell is selling whole pc's and for some reason they are not supporting big upgrades.

It's still not booting. So I'm just going to leave the cpu in there and let the computer run till I get up in the morning. Maybe it's just a super long boot time. Idk. Night
