So I currently have 2x4gb ares gskill 1600mhz ram & I am looking to get some 2x4gb crucial tracer ram. I was wondering will I have to replace the ares sticks or can I run them together & get 16gb ram?
heres the ram I was looking at:

heres the ram I have:

Well, if you're hitting the top of your current RAM usage, you should be OK. If you're not getting up there, it's really not worth it. If you want to get the extra RAM, try to find the exact same kit that you currently have.

Yes you can. But there are a few things you should know. It's better only run two sticks for stability. Some memory controllers are overloaded when using more than 2 sticks. You may have to increase the voltage a little. Also, it's a good idea to buy the exact same RAM or at least RAM will the same timings (9-9-9-24 for example).

Is there a reason you need more than 8GB?

Not particularly, could sell the other 2 but I do some video editing I guess, but I'm not too fussed. Is it worth trying to use both or not?
