My Monitor was working fine yesterday then the screen went black and I assumed it just went to sleep because I wasn't using it and now it isn't working. It will turn on but the screen display will say no VGA or HDMI detected I've tried switching the VGA cable and it still has the same problem so I know it's not that. I looked online and I could only find answers relating to graphics cards and secondary monitors but it's nothing to do with that because it's just a bog standard PC no fancy graphics card and I only have the one monitor, any suggestions please I'm desperate?!

Solution
Sounds like graphics... the "no VGA or HDMI detected" message proves the monitor is working... you see nothing but black when they fail.

1. Try resetting the BIOS. Remove the power cable from the computer, remove the BIOS battery and wait 5 to 10 minutes before placing it back on.
2. Did you switch the VGA cable for another VGA cable?
3. Do you have a DVI or HDMI cable and does the motherboard have DVI or HDMI video out?
4. Do you see the BIOS post when you turn the computer on?
5. Do you access to a video card? can you borrow one, or can you buy a cheap card,.. with the adequate PCI, PCIe slot whatever your motherboard supports?

I did the first thing you said and it works fine now thank you! It sure is true that you should always try turning it off and on again xD
