Hello all, looking for a new GPU to run the likes of Farcry 4 on ultra. My current system:

i7 2700k @ 4.8Ghz
Asus p8z68-v mobo
8gb 1600mhz RAM
2gb HD6970

I was thinking something along the lines of an R9 290X? Would this be a sensible upgrade, and compatible with my machine?

thanks

From my research (i'm looking for a card in the same price region), it would appear that the GTX 970 is better at 1080p

At 4k from what I've seen R9 290x is better. At 1440p it runs a couple of FPS on the standard benchmark games.

But at 1080p they are about the same. You would choose the GTX 970 because power consumption is ~45% lower, temperature is lower, and is a quieter card.

So it is all dependent on if you will be playing above 1080p.

(If I am wrong on thing please correct me and guide me towards trusted sources, thanks)
