Can I upgrade CPU & MoBo without reinstalling Windows? (SSD write limit!)

Hi,

I know this is a very nooby question, and you are probably sick to the back teeth of hearing it, but there are some extra parameters in my case, so I think it justifies another airing.

TL;DR
My CPU is a bit bad, and I want to upgrade to Haswell. Can I just leave my HD in place and reactivate upon the installation of the new components as I don't want to reinstall because I have reinstalled twice already onto my SSD and don't want to kill it any more.

So, here's the thing. I think I need some extra CPU horsepower because CPU intensive games (namely FSX) lag slightly during challenging conditions, and CPU utilisation during that time is 99% without the GPU breaking a sweat.

I have an upgrade license for W7, and WAS in possession of a Vista license before it got nicked (police are aware should M$ need to know).

I have transferred the O/S and dependents to a new computer before without any snags. I then proceeded to reinstall Windows when I added an SSD for obvious reasons. I would like to replace my CPU and MoBo, and am aware that W7 will need reactivation.

The reason I don't want to fresh install is that a) I don't want the fuss and b) I don't want to write to my SSD again as I have installed W7 twice if not thrice already.

As aforementioned I have done it before, moving from a laptop to a desktop I had build myself, and did not experience any issues with it before - however I wanted to know the following:

1) Can I do it without M$ whinging?
2) Do I need to remove my old drivers for MoBo and CPU before proceeding?
3) (and this is a cheeky one) Do you think that a CPU upgrade in this instance would be good. [Don't worry, I'll ask this on the CPU thread if you seem to agree that it'll be okay to go ahead]

Thanks (and sorry for the long post)
Tom

Okay, now I'll answer all the questions, not so busy anymore.

1-MS won't complain, they can can't as it is on YOUR hdd, it's not pirated.
2-You don't need to do anything for the cpu, but you might want to uninstall Mobo drivers for usb, lan, audio, etc, etc
3-Yes, of course the upgrade would be good unless you downgrade which I don't think anyone in your predicament would do.

To change/upgrade motherboard or CPU - You do not need to reinstall Windows.... Your hard drive will still be the same so no need to. Just upgrade the components and boot up like normal - Should be fine.

All you need to do after boot up is to install the correct drivers and update.
