So is my data gone for good or nah? I got a quote online and it was up towards 3k. Really? I can't afford that! It still shows up in device manager just not able to access it without windows wanting to format it.

Solution
Hey gemini. Although @ngrego's solution might work, I would advise you that you try some other things before that, because if you do this it will void the drive's warranty (if it's still under warranty). Try some of the solutions from this thread here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
If nothing works, you could try to open the drive with Linux LiveCD to see if you can access it and recover your data.

Hope that helps.

Grab a screwdriver and open up the disk enclosure.
Remove the HDD from the enclosure and install it inside your PC.
It should work fine.
If you have a laptop and cant install internally, you will need a new disk enclosure for the disk.
