There are quite a few rebates available on this build and the Ostrog is a nice case, shame you can't get to a Microcenter. This is without rebates

There's a lot of issues with this build to be honest. Most of your parts are obsolete or incompatible. Let us know your budget and we'll make you the best PC for your budget. Do you want to buy all your parts from Amazon? You can get a better PC overall by buying from several outlets

Seeing as the price of that cpu is $200 on amazon, why not go with an i5 4690k? Currently it's only $8 more and will run laps around that amd. Cpu benchmark score for the phenom II x4 965 is 4,271 - benchmark score for the i5 4690k is 7,727. Unless your preference is amd for some reason. Even then an fx 8320e would be a much better choice.

The radeon r9 270x should outperform the 6870 in games and costs around $100 less.

I think your original choice of hdd and ssd is a better bet than the hybrid seagate. I'd go with a better heatsink, especially if you wanted to overclock. For under $40 you can pick up a cooler master hyper 212 evo that does pretty well and fits most amd and intel cpus.

The only thing is going with an intel cpu would mean a different motherboard. I'd be willing to bet the money you saved on the 6870 could be put to a better z97 motherboard paired with the i5 and all in all you'd be right about the same budget you're at now give or take $20 or so. And you'd have a much stronger faster machine to show for it. Just my .02 worth. Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing amd or trying to push amd fans to intel but the way things are right now intel is just making much stronger cpu's that are comparable in price to that one.

Thanks everyone, I'd set the budget to $500 - 750$ usd, most is for Christmas that's why its on amazon, but i looked on microcenter and such and the prices were higher, however I did not look on new egg yet.

I also have a current desktop that I could upgrade, but the board is old so probably just use the case. I don't know what the case is ATM as it is at my dads.

I will only use the sad for boot and possible some games or files I'll need speedy read values, and a huge storage capacity. I have a laptop that has a 64gb sad for boot and few games and a 750gb HDD for storage, would like to follow the same setup.

I'll mess around with the PC part picker and share what I come up with.

get ether one of these ram kits
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f32133c10d8gab cas10
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f32133c9d8gab cas9

both of them are cheaper and have better cas timings then the corsair ram. Little secret corsair has a premium price on their ram with worse timings and no one on the internet right now can figure out why.

I use to be a big corsair fan till I ran across mushkin ram, its cheaper and I can overclock it faster with better timings then I can with corsair ram. Mushkin and G.Skill are in a tie for first with me and Kingston in a close 2nd. Corsair is good but you pay a premium for it and I just cant figure out what that extra money does for you.

Dignified

The money accounts for poor customer service and crappy shipping times from Corsair?;) In all honesty I just think the modules look a little nicer!

For your budget this would be a great build, you have the capacity to add more ram later and the PSU will happily power any single GPU card around. I think the case is a nice one but of course its down to personal taste!

now i'm jealous lol.. seriously great pick at that price ToDahWindow. If I were you I'd think about picking it up soon just in case. It seems to be one of the most sought after cpu's this year and it's been all over the place as far as price/avail from several online merchants. I got one for a family member the other day from ncix for 214 and thought I was doing good. Was the lowest price at the time, went to let someone else know and went back to ncix and they were out of them completely.

What you think? (I cut back on the graphics card, but I'll add the r9 280x to the list)

I don't think the WD black is worth the extra money over the blue, especially as a secondary drive. If you get a blue you'll be able to afford an r9 280 which is somewhere between the 270x and 280x in terms of performance but it has 3gb of vram which makes it better suited to newer games
